I.

AND it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.

AND when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS.

_At Twelve Years of Age He Accompanies his Parents to Jerusalem and Returns._

AND the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.

_John Baptizes in Jordan._

NOW in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judaea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias the tetrarch of Abilene,

V.

_Jesus is Baptized at 30 Years of Age._

THEN cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.

VI.

_Drives the Traders Out of the Temple._

AFTER this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples: and they continued there not many days.

VII.

_He Baptizes, but Retires into Galilee on the Death of John._

AFTER these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judaea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized.

VIII.

_He Teaches in the Synagogue._

AND they went into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue, and taught.

IX.

_Explains the Sabbath._

AT that time Jesus went on the sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were an hungred, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat.

_Call of His Disciples._

AND it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.

AND seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:

WHEN he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him.

THE same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side.

ANOTHER parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field.

AND he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground;

AND he spake also a parable unto them; No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old; if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agreeth not with the old.

AND it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these parables, he departed thence.

XXV.

_Mission Instructions, Return of Apostles._

BUT when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.

AFTER these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him.

THEREFORE is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants.

NOW the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover?

WHEN Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples.

JESUS therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye?

LXV.

_Is then Carried to Pilate._

THEN led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover.

LXVI.

_Who Sends Him to Herod._

WHEN Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked whether the man were a Galilean.

LXVII.

_Receives Him Back, Scourges and Delivers Him to Execution._

AND Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,

LXVIII.

_His Crucifixion, Death, and Burial._

THEN the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers.

LXIX.

_His Burial._

THE Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
